给自己松绑 (gěi zìjǐ sōngbǎng) literally means “untie yourself,” like loosening a rope. It’s used metaphorically to mean cutting yourself some slack, letting go of unnecessary pressure, or freeing yourself from unrealistic expectations. It’s often said when someone realizes they’ve been too hard on themselves or trapped by their own standards.
Here are a few examples:

A bad exam doesn’t mean you’re a failure. Don’t be too hard on yourself—cut yourself some slack.
摒弃 (bìngqì) mean To abandon, give up, or cast aside something—especially ideas, habits, customs, or practices that are outdated, harmful, or undesirable. It often conveys a sense of conscious, deliberate rejection.

Sometimes, we find ourselves puzzled: we put in way more time and effort than others on something, yet the results still fall short. The real issue often lies in a mental trap—we’re not focused on a clear goal, and our energy gets scattered. Over time, this creates a vicious cycle. Our energy is limited, and we simply can’t give our all to everything. We have to make choices and focus on what matters most in order to reach our full potential. Learning how to manage our time and energy wisely is a kind of intelligence.
Learning to focus is essential.
We all know people who seem to be highly efficient no matter what they do. It's not that they have more energy than everyone else—it’s that they focus on what truly matters. They channel their time and energy into the most critical tasks. When it comes to less important things, they know when to ease up. The ability to identify what’s truly important is a valuable mental skill. As Lin Yutang once said, the wisdom of life lies in eliminating the unnecessary. If you want to reach the mountaintop, forget the streams for now. If you want to master painting a tiger, stop studying deer.
You can flex your muscles by doing a Paraphrasing practice to round things up.
