What is my secret?
Labake's Secret to Speaking Chinese Like a Pro
When I get the question, what’s your secret? I don’t know what to say because nothing I did on my journey is a secret. Everything is open and we all know them. But if calling them “secret” is what some of us prefer, then well, that’s also fine.😅
💡So my secrets are:
Right Mindset
Clear goals
Strong pronunciation (tones, vowels, consonants, rhythm and intonation)
Listening, listening and listening
Shadowing, shadowing and shadowing
Paraphrasing, paraphrasing and paraphrasing
Speaking, speaking and speaking
Review, review, review
Staying kind to myself

Let’s talk about the first one today and take the rest one as we go.
📌What is the right mindset?
I am currently learning Arabic and I laugh every time I do the same thing I warn Chinese learners against. Just yesterday, my Arabian friend recommended some videos I could watch for my listening practice and I had this look of fear because I knew I wouldn't understand everything.
Lol, she then said: “But you always tell me it's okay not to understand everything when you share Chinese videos”. I laughed at myself and said, Yes, it is.
I know it is easier said, but we need a GROWTH MINDSET to learn and not a fixed one. We are learning, so we should allow ourselves "not to be good enough" at the beginning, and let this be a "motivation" to get better, and not a "blockade" that sends us running.
Hence, we need to believe that:
"I am not good at this yet, but with effective and consistent practice, I can be better".
💡This is the right mindset!
I’m curious, do you have the right mindset?
